Request for Proposal (RFP)

The goal of the Denver New Schools Office of the Denver Public Schools (DPS) is to improve student achievement and graduation rates by developing and implementing high-performing new school options that meet the priority needs of the district and community. DPS will establish new schools through this Request for Proposal (RFP) process to provide Denver’s students and families with new academic choices within their communities through the creation of high-performing and research-based Performance and Charter Schools. All new schools approved through this process will be classified as public schools within the DPS system.

This will be the second year in which DPS is soliciting proposals for new schools from the community. Following two RFP cycles in 2008, the district will open eight new Charter and Performance schools with a high potential for success in the fall of 2009. Those new additions to DPS include: Cesar Chavez Academy Denver (pending location confirmation), Edison Learning Partnership School 3, Envision Leadership Prep, Justice High School, KIPP Denver Collegiate High School, Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy, Math and Science Leadership Academy and West Denver Prep II. An overview of these new schools is available in the Approved New Schools section. With the continuation of the new schools initiative, DPS hopes to develop a dynamic network of schools that will improve academic achievement, increase high school graduation rates, and improve college and career readiness for all of Denver’s students. DPS looks forward to welcoming new high quality educational options to serve students and families throughout the city of Denver.
